Slate rocks can be used for many different purposes in your aquatics hobby. Most hobbyists utilize these to create landscaping features within their tank such as a “mountain” or cave. You can also use this to tie or glue plants and mosses, which is what we primarily use them for. Some of their benefits include providing hiding spaces for critters, and increased surface area for foraging critters like shrimp, plecos, and otocinclus.

The slate rock you will be receiving is about 4 inches long and/or wide and about 1/8th inch thick to reduce the overall weight. Generally, they will come at the size of your palm, but note that these are not cut to precision to maintain a natural look. Thus they come in a variety of shapes and sizes, and will be selected at random. Our slate rocks are inert, pressure washed and boiled without chemicals, so you don’t have to worry about risking your tank.

General Details
  • Size Dimensions: ~4 long, ~4 inches wide, 1/8th inch thick
  • Instructions: Use as is. While unnecessary for our Slate rocks, it’s generally wise to boil any new botanicals in a clean pot of water for a brief moment before introducing to the tank to reduce risk of toxins, contaminants and pests.
  • Notes: We source these directly from a US partner who ensures the rocks are pressure washed, boiled and cut to description. By cutting them as thin as possible, we reduce the overall weight of the rock while maximizing the surface area they provide. We mostly utilize these to provide more natural attachment for our moss and plants than stainless steel mesh or plastic.
